It’s that time again!! Facebook Friday means linking up your Facebook pages–whatever they may be.
“Facebook Friday” is similar to a “Follow Friday” or other memes you may have heard about where people follow you and you follow other people. With a catch.
If you don’t actually like the page (or blog associated with it)…don’t click “like”.
The one thing I don’t like about those “Friday Follows” and things of that nature is that you feel obligated to follow someone who follows you. Sure, you may find a few blogs you may have not otherwise have found and genuinely want to follow them. Then comes the guilt. So-and-so followed me…so I’m obligated to follow them back. Then heaven forbid you stop following-well…they are going to do it too! Don’t get me wrong-I’ve participated in a few of those in my time (and found blogs I really enjoyed!) and there’s nothing wrong with that-if that’s what you want to do. I personally want people to follow me because they genuinely like my blog and want to interact with me.
Here’s how it works:
If you want to participate you’re going to link up below. Link up to your fanpage-not your blog. If you want 5,000 friends and would rather have people “friend” you on facebook you’re welcome to do that as well. If you’d rather have more followers on your “networked blogs” page…link that up! This meme is all about the facebook love. The only thing I ask in return is that you place my button (below) on your blog. If you don’t like my cute little button you can just add a little blippet at the bottom of your post (something to the effect of “I’m participating in facebook friday at MamaBytes”). I’ve seen plenty of people who don’t want to clutter things up with buttons but show a gal some love somehow! It can be in your post today, on your sidebar…whatever. I’d like for anyone who needs more “fans” to be able to get them. If you really love me
tweet this post out and let your friends on twitter know as well.
Now that the technical stuff is out of the way let’s get on with the show. Remember…only “like” blogs you actually like…or want to get to know better. No “liking” back is required…and thus no guilt. If you want to “like” someone back in return feel free-but it’s not required.

Well, I obviously missed this but I like the idea of it. And yes, those “follow” things can be a lot of pressure.

Thanks Debbie!! I do have one up now if you’d like to link up!
I don’t like feeling obligated to follow someone I don’t feel a connection with, something just doesn’t feel right!

Thanks for stopping by my blog this morning. I’ll have to participate in your next Friday Facebook fun. It’s funny what you wrote about not wanting to follow people back and only wanting genuine followers. I posted a few weeks ago about the guilt and the EXACT same thoughts and the only comment I got was if I don’t wanna play by the rules, I shouldn’t play, basically. Kind of funny, really. This was my post about it: http://itrocks2bmom.blogspot.com/2010/08/to-follow-or-not-to-follow.html
Have a great day!

Ok, I wrote this comment once and it didn’t post. I wrote it again and Wordpress said “oops, you already said that!” and wouldn’t post that. So, I’m starting over… lol
Thanks for stopping by this morning. Love this post because I wrote about the exact same thing and I’m glad to know I’m not the only one that feels the guilt of following back. The only comment I got on that post was that if I didn’t wanna play, don’t play basically. So, good to know I’m not alone
Our words almost match, lol : http://itrocks2bmom.blogspot.com/2010/08/to-follow-or-not-to-follow.html

I’m glad I stopped by too! Yes, the guilt for those blog hops is almost overwhelming. I participated a few times, but didn’t really see the sense of following people I didn’t truly feel connected with. Then I’d end up unfollowing later to unclog my blog stream. I hope you’ll link up today!!
