Put your Facebook friends into different groups

February 8, 2010

OK, I just became aware of this tonight….there are people who don’t know how to separate their Facebook friends into groups.  Nothing wrong with that whatsoever–I’d just go insane if I had to view all my Facebook friends at one time!  If you’re familiar with Twitter it’s kind of like twitter lists.  It makes it possible to see one group of friends at a time instead of a whole oodle of them!  I did it before Facebook started changing over…but it is possible to do it on the new Facebook too!  I’m going to teach you how to do it!  I could never survive with having to look at almost 300 people in my feed at one time.  I’d go insane!  This tutorial is for the new version of Facebook.  If yours hasn’t changed over yet please see an excellent tutorial here

Here are the steps; pictures are included, click if you need to make them bigger::

1)  Log into Facebook.  (I hope this is a given!)

2)  Click “Account” in the upper right hand of your screen.

3)  Click “Edit Friends”

4)  Look on the left side of your screen.  Somewhere you should find a hyperlink with a plus sign next to it that says “Create”.  Click that.  Create whatever groups you like.  You can see mine here.

5)  A window will pop up.  Create whatever groups you like.  Yes, I’m aware I have 2 for weight loss. One is for “real people” and one is for like…”Biggest Loser” people and celebrities and such.
YOU’RE DONE!  Congratulations! You’re no longer going crazy trying to keep up with your facebook feed!

***Edited to add–in order to view your new lists once you are done look to the left and click “Friends”.  Once you’ve done that you should see your groups!  Also–I actually put in the link above that was missing! ;-) ***

Thanks for stopping by for my (sometimes) regular meme “Tuesday’s Tips”.  You can find more useful stuff like that here.  If you have questions–just ask!
Have you heard?  I’m shaving my head.…it’s an awesome cause–have you donated?!

Hey, I see myself twice in your little tutorial picture up there!! :)

Great job on the makeover. I wanna know how you do 2 normal posts, and then snippets like that near the bottom. I’ve seen that before & love it! And the tabs on the side. And the tabs on top. Oh, I think I would have an anurysm trying to figure all of that out. lol

No, they do not (to my knowledge). This is one of those “for your eyes only” kind of things! ;-)

I recently put my FB friends into different groups and wished that I’ve done it a loooong time ago!

I created different groups in FB, but now nothing is different. I can’t even find the groups unless I go back to “account.” I was hoping that I could just choose which group I want to look at on my news feed….is that what is supposed to happen? So they aren’t all mished together? What did I do wrong?

You can-you just have to look to the left to see your groups and then click on the group you want to see. Only that group will be shown then.
