Facebook Friday #8

in Blogging,Weekly Memes,facebook friday

Time to link up your Facebook pages!!!

“Facebook Friday” is similar to a “Follow Friday” or other memes you may have heard about where people follow you and you follow other people. With a catch.

If you don’t actually like the page (or blog associated with it)…don’t click “like”.

The one thing I don’t like about those “Friday Follows” and things of that nature is that you feel obligated to follow someone who follows you. Sure, you may find a few blogs you may have not otherwise have found and genuinely want to follow them. Then comes the guilt. So-and-so followed me…so I’m obligated to follow them back. Then heaven forbid you stop following-well…they are going to do it too! Don’t get me wrong-I’ve participated in a few of those in my time (and found blogs I really enjoyed!) and there’s nothing wrong with that-if that’s what you want to do. I personally want people to follow me because they genuinely like my blog and want to interact with me.

Here’s how it works:

If you want to participate you’re going to link up below. Link up to your fanpage-not your blog. If you want 5,000 friends and would rather have people “friend” you on facebook you’re welcome to do that as well. If you’d rather have more followers on your “networked blogs” page…link that up! This meme is all about the facebook love. The only thing I ask in return is that you place my button (below) on your blog. If you don’t like my cute little button you can just add a little blippet at the bottom of your post (something to the effect of “I’m participating in facebook friday at MamaBytes”). I’ve seen plenty of people who don’t want to clutter things up with buttons but show a gal some love somehow! It can be in your post today, on your sidebar…whatever. I’d like for anyone who needs more “fans” to be able to get them. If you really love me ;-) tweet this post out and let your friends on twitter know as well.

Now that the technical stuff is out of the way let’s get on with the show. Remember…only “like” blogs you actually like…or want to get to know better. No “liking” back is required…and thus no guilt. If you want to “like” someone back in return feel free-but it’s not required.

Link up with your picture, your blog button-whatever! Just keep it clean! ;-)

Have you ever wanted to take a poll of what your friends on twitter think?  Maybe it’s about your latest blog post or you want to find out what they think about your most recent tweets.  Whatever the reason-you’d like to hear their thoughts!

There’s an app for that. ;-)

Twtpoll allows you to create polls and surveys, then post to your social networking sites to find answers.

TwtPoll Home Screen Screenshot

This is the screen you will see when you visit TwtPoll. Choose your preference. For the sake of this tutorial I'm going to do a poll.

Choose Your Question Format

Choose what type of poll you'd like to do. So many options!

Filled in Forms

Fill in all applicable areas with whatever you'd like to find out!

Share your poll

Share your poll on the social networks of your choosing or embed it somewhere (like in a post).

You can see an example of a poll in operation by looking at yesterday’s post-pertaining to whether you should or shouldn’t tweet from church. I would love to get your thoughts on that!!

It’s that simple.  Then you can see what people think.  Sometimes it’s easier to get people to answer a poll (especially since it’s anonymous) than it is to get them to answer a question just directed at no one in particular.

That’s it for this week’s edition of Tweet Me Tuesday. Tweet me Tuesday is a weekly link up for bloggers to get some love while getting tips to use Twitter more effectively.  Want to participate? Here’s how:

  • Check out Melinda’s Blog. She’s the genius who came up with Tweet Me Tuesday!
  • Tweet this post!
  • Link up a post you’d like Tweeted using Linky Tools below. It can either be your most recent post or an older, favorite post you’d like to share with a new audience. You only have to put the link to your post at one of our blogs–we are both showing the same exact links. Link up here at Melinda’s blog-and grab a button at either place as well!
  • Follow Melinda and myself on Twitter! (if you’re not already)
  • Visit the links below and tweet as many as you can!!
  • Follow as many of these bloggers as you’d like on Twitter. (You can also follow their blogs if you like!)
  • If you tweet at us/about us/for Tweet Me Tuesday please use the hashtag #TMT . It makes it easier for us to find your tweets! Not sure about hashtags? See this post!

Thou shalt not…tweet?

by Kristen (Admin) on August 30, 2010

in My Christian Walk,Twitter,Uncategorized

Thou shalt not commit murder.  Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife.  Thou shalt not tweet in church.

Say what?

Quick question-WWJD? :-)

Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations

Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Mar 6:11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Wait a minute.

That sounds like Christians are supposed to let everyone they know or even come  across about God. They should be overwhelmed and filled with joy at the very thought of being able to spread the word of God wherever they can.  In the time of Jesus he walked from town to town and spread the word.  People told their friends, who rode on the backs of animals to tell their friends.  For thousands of years Christians have been trying to spread the word of God.  When your buddy has a bad day many of you will quote scripture.  Tough situation?  Read your Bible.  Some people just can’t hold it in–they’ll tell you about the love of Jesus while you’re sitting in the next stall in a public restroom.  Twitter though?

Some people seem to be of the mindset that it’s wrong to tweet from church.  Maybe they think it’s disrespectful.  Maybe they just don’t want to hear it.  Whatever the reason, some people are against it.

When you hear a good sermon at church do you leave and tell your friends about it?  When you disagree with your preacher’s thinking on a scripture do you elbow your neighbor and snicker or write notes? Do you sit and hold conversations with people about what you heard?  Chances are if you go to church you do.  Well, who’s to say that just because people are online friends (versus ones you’ve actually met) are any different?  Why wouldn’t you as a Christian want to share what you are learning with anyone you know?

Many of you share things.  You share your lives on your blogs, with your friends, on facebook, Myspace, and Twitter.  When it comes to Jesus suddenly there’s a right and wrong way to do it? You can approach me on a street corner, in a restroom, in the grocery store or when I’m broken down on the side of the road…but not on twitter? Sermons and religious services (and concerts) are podcasted, put on YouTube and broadcast the world over…but it’s rude to share what you’re learning as it happens? I think not.

Jesus didn’t say “Go forth and be timid”.  I don’t remember anything in the Bible about there being a right and wrong time to share the word of God.  Many times people I know simply feel led to let others know about God…and the timing isn’t always the best for them. Maybe they’re shy.  Maybe it’s sharing with an unbeliever.  You know what though?  I don’t think God chooses weak people to share his word.  He chooses the ones who aren’t afraid to be politically incorrect or stir up a little dust. If you think about it what Jesus did wasn’t exactly conventional in his time.  Who’s to say that in a digital age you shouldn’t share things as they happen with the technology we’re given?  I’m sure that not everyone on twitter goes to church.  Maybe, just maybe they might need to hear what’s being said.

Who’s to judge?

Not you.

Not me.

There’s only one who’s equipped for that job.

What do you think?

This was sparked by a discussion I had recently with @SugarJones and @RealLifeSarah.  @SugarJones was being chastised for tweeting from church.  What do you think?  To tweet or not to tweet?

Socially Savvy Parents on Twitter

August 24, 2010

Are you a “socially savvy” parent?  Do you know what Twitter is? Do you know how to use it?  Even more important though-do your kiddos/tweens/teens know how to use it? Online safety is a big concern for most parents.  They put blocks on their computers or internet programs to block out objectionable content.  They go [...]

Shaquan Duley-Mother & Monster

August 18, 2010

Mothers are supposed to protect their babies. To keep them safe from harm, snuggle them when they need comforting, make pb&j sandwiches…not suffocate them. I can’t ignore this any longer. The news has been inundated with updates on the case as things played out and with each report I became more sad AND angry. Shaquan [...]

To show or not to show? Privacy on Twitter

August 17, 2010

When you’re on twitter are you mindful of the same things you are in other areas of the internet? Do you tell it all or do you hold a few things back? I’ve seen people on twitter post things that (many times) they wouldn’t normally post to their blogs. Pictures of their nude toddlers and [...]
